I took your class a few weeks ago and it had a REAL affect on me. It made me look at things in an entirely different way.
Your point about having purpose has caused me to rethink what I am currently doing with my life. I spoke to several older friends who have retired and many of them are bitter about the world and news and the way the police department has changed since when they were on. I don’t think they have a purpose and many of them left because they were mad or they had reached an arbitrary number in their head.
I bought your book and I really like it. I have encouraged several of my co-workers to take your class. I really think that it should be mandatory for anyone with over 20 years on the department.
When I walked into that in-service class, I had every intention of leaving when I was 50 years old. That would give me 29 years with the department. But, I no longer think that way. I really like HPD. Even with all the issues, it’s still a pretty good place to work. My wife and I have four children and HPD has allowed me to provide a good, comfortable life for them.
Thank your for writing your book and creating this class. I think we concentrate so much on the financials when we think of retiring. I think having your mind right is just as important, or maybe a little more so. Keep doing what you’re doing, because you do affect people’s lives.
